Researchers who study longevity have discovered certain common traits in those who live long, happy lives. While genetics may be the most important factor determining longevity, following these tips can help everyone maximize their lifespan.

  1. Exercise daily. It doesn’t always have to be hard exercise; something simple such as walking can suffice. Just be physically active every day or most days.
  2.  Cultivate relationships with family and friends.
  3. Eat more plants and less meat.
  4. Develop a sense of meaning in your life. Find a purpose.
  5. Earn an adequate income.
  6. Be involved in a spiritual activity.
  7. Eat seafood twice weekly.
  8. Don’t rely on drugs to fall asleep.
  9. Get enough sleep — generally 7-8 hours a night.
  10. Cultivate an optimistic mindset.
